Hidden deep within the mountains, the dojo doors opened to welcome a new class of aspiring ninjas. Throughout the week, campers trained in the ancient arts of stealth, agility, and creativity as they completed secret missions across Camp ROGA. From crafting clever disguises and testing their skills on the gymnastics equipment to enjoying ninja-inspired snacks and splashing through exciting water challenges, every day brought a new adventure worthy of a legendary shinobi.

Camp ROGA campers create ninja-themed crafts, including substitution dummies, ninja robes, and custom ninja characters during arts and crafts.

This week was all about ninjas, so for craft, the little campers turned ninjas left the dojo to learn some ninja crafting skills. When performing ninjutsu and disappearing into clouds of smoke, it’s always best to have something to leave behind to distract the enemy. This is sometimes a wooden block or some empty clothing, but in this case the ninjas would craft a perfect double to leave behind for maximum distractive values. We made a couple of different versions of this substitution device. One version consisted of popsicle sticks with pipe cleaner headbands, a reference to the classic block of wood trope. The other we made from plastic Easter eggs, which were filled with beads for extra weight, and decorated with colorful tape for the headbands, and rhinestones for some extra decoration. Being a ninja is also about being incognito, and to do that, the ninjas would need some robes. Campers got to choose the color of their robes and the chance to see them modeled on props, and while being incognito was the goal, a little bit of fashion never hurt anyone. Finally, the campers got the chance to design their ideal ninja, from all the way to how their robes looked to what kind of weapons they wielded.

Camp ROGA campers complete ninja training through gymnastics, climbing ropes, balancing on beams, swinging on bars, and tackling obstacle courses.

The dojo doors slid open, revealing the first challenge waiting for our newest class of ninjas. Before anyone could begin their secret mission, they had to prove they possessed the speed, and agility needed to navigate the training grounds. One by one, campers stepped onto the equipment, where every station became a new obstacle standing between them and their next assignment.

The bars stretched high above like the beams of an ancient fortress, encouraging ninjas to swing swiftly from one side to the other without losing momentum. Nearby, the balance beam became a narrow rooftop where every careful step helped them avoid alerting the castle guards below. On the floor, rolls, cartwheels, and jumps transformed into daring escapes through hidden passageways, while the ropes challenged campers to climb towering walls to reach a lookout point above the village. Even the block pit became a concealed hiding place, offering a safe landing before the next mission began.

Around every corner, another challenge appeared. Campers leaped over obstacles, crawled beneath imaginary defenses, and dashed from station to station as though racing against time to deliver an important scroll. Every movement carried the story forward, turning the gym into a bustling ninja village where each new obstacle unlocked another exciting adventure.

Campers enjoy ninja-themed snacks featuring Hyourougan-inspired treats, pretzel nunchucks, Babybel cheese wheels, Oreo ninjas, fresh fruit, and vegetables.

Taking a break from the action in the dojo to enjoy some Hyourougan, ninjas took the chance to regain some energy in the snack room. The campers turned ninja enjoyed some ninja-themed food, including baybel cheese wheels and Oreos with a strip cut from one of their sides to make a ninja mask. The little ninjas also were able to take a little of the dojo into the snack room with them with their pretzel nunchucks, with chocolate coating to ensure they stuck together. Alongside these snacks, campers were also given plenty of fruit and vegetable supplementary snacks to ensure that everyone got the nutrients that they needed.

Campers cool off during Camp ROGA's ninja-themed Water Day with water balloon games, sprinklers, bucket challenges, and a giant slip-and-slide.

The secret mission continued beyond the dojo walls as our ninjas arrived at the edge of the Hidden River. Waiting on the opposite shore was an important message, but reaching it meant surviving a gauntlet of watery obstacles guarded by rival clans. Before long, the first splash signaled that the chase had begun.

Campers darted across the field, weaving through sprinklers that erupted without warning and dodging surprise attacks from water blasters hidden around every corner. Buckets became tools for transporting precious supplies, though they often ended up empty after an unexpected splash from a passing teammate. Every successful dash across the riverbank brought another challenge, as ninjas hurried to complete missions before the opposing clan could slow them down.

The air was filled with laughter as alliances shifted and surprise ambushes appeared from every direction. One moment campers were sneaking quietly toward their objective, and the next they were caught in a soaking spray that sent everyone scrambling for cover. Quick thinking and fast feet kept the adventure moving as each challenge led to another.

With every sprint through the sprinklers and every well-aimed splash, the Hidden River became a lively battleground where secret missions, daring escapes, and playful water fights blended into one unforgettable ninja adventure.

As the final mission came to a close, the dojo echoed with stories of daring escapes, clever disguises, and unforgettable adventures. Whether campers were designing their own ninjas, navigating obstacle-filled training grounds, enjoying themed treats, or taking on splash-filled secret missions, each activity added another chapter to the week’s tale. We hope you enjoy these highlights from our ninja adventure and look forward to joining us for the next exciting Camp ROGA week!

ROGA Blog: Camp Roga: Harry Potter World

This week, Camp ROGA received a very special letter sealed with wax and delivered straight from Hogwarts! Our young witches and wizards packed their trunks, grabbed their robes, and stepped through the magical world of Harry Potter for a week filled with enchanting crafts, spellbinding gymnastics, delicious treats, and magical Water Day fun. From Diagon Alley to the Quidditch pitch, every activity was packed with creativity, imagination, and plenty of wizarding adventures that would make even Dumbledore proud.

Camp ROGA campers create Harry Potter-inspired crafts including clay wands, painted snakes, magical potions, and decorated wizard glasses.

After the wizards got their letter in the mail, they were raring to go off to Hogwarts, but before they could enter the wizarding world proper, they needed to grab their school supplies. With a pinch of Floo powder and a set of (very) carefully pronounced words, they disappeared from their fireplaces and appeared in Diagon Alley. With so many sights to see, but so little time before their classes, the wizards flitted their way between stores, grabbing everything that they needed. Their first stop was at the Magical Menagerie; stepping through the doors, they were greeted by a cacophony of noise as little beasties and pets squeaked and squawked from the cages lined wall to wall within the store. The little wizards had a hard time picking their favorites, but since so many of them were proficient in Parseltongue (hissing constantly counts, right?), they decided to bring a snake with them to school. But with so many different (paint) colors, gems, and different magical breeds to choose from, every camper got their own unique pet which they could take with them to Hogwarts. Then it was time for them to head over to Ollivanders and pick up their very own wand. But it appears that Ollivander ran out of the usual yew, chestnut, and holly wood, and so he had to get creative. Campers this time made their wands out of clay; normally, a wand picks the wizard, but this time the wizards made the wand. Using the clay to shape their wands into whatever shape they desired, whether that be spiral or beads, or some other wacky combination, the wizards fashioned themselves the perfect spell-casting device and were ready to head to their first wizarding class. The first class was Potions with Professor-Coach Snape; campers got to mix up whatever potion they desired with all of the ingredients that they got from Diagon Alley. Glitter and food coloring stood in for bezor and toad eyes, but that did not make the mixing any less fun. The campers came up with all kinds of different potions; fire breathing was a popular one, and there was plenty of liquid luck floating about. Some even made a potion that turned you into Daniel Radcliffe (and they specified Daniel Radcliffe, not Harry Potter). Next, the campers headed to their charms class, and each of them channeled their inner hermonie granger when they cast Occulus reparo! And conjured up a pair of glasses for each camper to wear. Each camper got a pair of glasses to decorate and take home, and by the time that the charms stopped flying, all the campers needed was a lightning-shaped scar, and they would be ready to defeat the dark lord themselves.

Camp ROGA campers complete Harry Potter-themed gymnastics activities on bars, beams, trampolines, rope climbs, obstacle courses, and foam pits.

Our witches and wizards put their magical training in the sky blue halls of Hogwarts. Every station offered a new challenge worthy of a Triwizard Champion. Campers mounted the bars and soared off to a Quidditch match, tumbled across the floor dodging enchanted chess pieces, and leaped through the foam walls of Platform 9 ¾. Campers climbed to the Astronomy Tower, while obstacle courses had everyone racing to collect “house points”. Whether practicing cartwheels, swings, jumps, or climbs, every camper got plenty of mileage out of Wingardium Leviosa. By the end of the day, our campers had completed another magical round of training and were more than ready for whatever adventures awaited them next at Camp ROGA.

Once their spell classes were done, the campers headed out onto the quidditch pitch for a tasty snack. Campers had some pretzel brooms, which were made from pretzels, a recess cup for the end, and some smaller pretzels topped with marshmallows for the broom spokes. Campers got their house spirit on with some house-themed snack cups, each with a different snack for the different houses. Staying in the spirit of House pride, we had pudding cups and Rice Krispies bars, each with different house colors on them so that campers could stick with their sorting hat choices.

Camp ROGA campers enjoy Harry Potter-themed Water Day with slip-and-slide races, splash games, water balloons, kiddie pools, and outdoor activities.

At the end of the week, campers broke out the Aguamenti spell with gusto. Buckets, water balloons, and sponge games turned ordinary activities into magical challenges, with everyone trying to stay one step ahead of the next water curse. Between games, campers gathered with their friends to enjoy the sunshine before heading back for another round of watery adventures. The combination of warm summer weather, energetic games, and Harry Potter-themed fun made Water Day a favorite part of the week. By the time the last splash landed, our young witches and wizards were soaked, smiling, and already looking forward to the next magical adventure waiting at Camp ROGA.

As the Hogwarts Express pulled away for another year, our campers left with magical memories, handcrafted treasures, and stories they’ll be sharing long after the last spell was cast. Whether they were brewing potions, soaring through gymnastics, enjoying wizard-worthy snacks, or splashing through Water Day, every camper brought their own magic to Camp ROGA. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for another exciting week of adventures, where a brand-new theme and even more unforgettable memories are waiting!

ROGA Blog: Camp ROGA: Ninja Warrior

Summer rolled on this week at Camp ROGA, and our Ninjas in training rose to every challenge for Ninja Warrior week! From climbing ropes to crafting gear, every activity helped build strength, focus, and confidence. Whether they were swinging through the air or creating something by hand, these Ninjas were learning, growing, and having a great time along the way. Here are just a few highlights from another awesome week at Camp ROGA.

Activities and games at Camp ROGA

This week, our Ninjas took on a different kind of warrior, the Samurai. Samurai Coach Payton faced the Ninjas during one of our end-of-day group games, playing Samurai and Ninjas. In this game, the Samurai stands in the middle of the team floor, guarding his treasure from any would-be thieves. The Ninjas would then try to sneak past the Samurai without being seen, standing still, or hiding behind a block or another Ninja whenever the Samurai turned to look at them. Any Ninja caught would have to return to their base to regroup and try again, but they had to hurry! There was only so much treasure to go around, so Ninjas who were caught had to make up the distance they had lost before other Ninjas beat them to their prize. This game was action-packed and was one of our campers’ favorites this week.

After their theft of the treasure, the Ninjas had to find a place to hide their ill-gotten gains. To do so, they engaged in one of our other games for this week, Build The Secret Hideout. Here, the Ninjas would take blocks from the ROGA foam pit and use them to build a tower to hide their treasure, racing to see who could build the tallest and sturdiest fort before the Samurai came to take their treasure back. Our precocious Ninja teams employed numerous different strategies. Some opted to build tottering single block spires as high as they could, to hide their treasure away from the prying eyes of the Samurai. Some built stocky and sturdy towers, many blocks wide, within which they would hide their hidden hoards. One of the more successful strategies involved a combination of these methods, where campers would first construct a sturdy base, then make the tower gradually more narrow as it went up. Regardless of tower-building strategy, though, when it came time to relocate, the Ninjas had a lot of fun tearing them down.

While agility, stealth, and speed are the classic traits of any great Ninja, true warriors also need courage, determination, and a strong grip. Enter Theo. One of the training stations our ninjas participated in was a rope climb, which stretches up 25 feet to the ceiling of the gym. All our Ninjas gave the rope a good attempt, and some made it impressively high, but Theo wanted to outdo them all. Hand over hand, and foot over foot, Theo moved steadily upward, slowly at first, but gaining speed and confidence all the way. Theo’s feat of endurance did not go unnoticed either, as a crowd of spectators would gradually form at the foot of the rope to watch him make his climb. At one point, every camper in the gym was waiting with bated breath as he reached towards the ceiling, and when he slapped it, there was a thunderous cheer. Theo then slid down from the rope to the floor in a truly gracious motion, where his friends waited to say congratulations.

Theo’s accomplishments were the talk of the dojo, but other Ninjas would not let him hog all the spotlight. Earlier in the week, another camper, Jordan, set before herself the task of jumping from one uneven bar to the other. She has seen athletes perform similar tasks in the Olympics, and confirmed with the Coaches that it was possible, but she had never tried it before the week had started. However, the fear of the unknown had no sway over Jordan, and she fought past her initial nervousness of the task day after day, until finally, on the third day, she succeeded. What made Jordan’s moment of accomplishment legendary wasn’t just the leap itself; it was also the patience, persistence, and the absolute confidence of a Ninja who never gives up. Jordan and Theo weren’t the only campers who accomplished something truly wonderful during camp; they were just a couple of those that I saw. Many more students this week took a step forward into the unknown, seen or otherwise, that might have changed them more than they knew. We hope to keep giving this opportunity to more campers as the summer barrels onwards.

Girls showing off their Ninja pouch craft at Camp ROGA summer camp.

In the quieter parts of the Dojo, our Ninjas were hard at work crafting new gear to add to their stealth kits. One of these pieces was the Bottomless Ninja Pouch, each of which was crafted to resemble its Ninja users. Above, you can see one camper in the process of putting the final touches on her own pouch, readying it to carry important other parts of her Ninja gear. Designs like pictured were quite popular, but were far from the only ones that campers made. One design I made note of had 9 eyes, and another had three scarves. One camper even decided to seal her pouch and its contents away forever (with glue) so that none could ever glimpse her secrets again.

The pouches were a good start, but what use was infinite storage if you had nothing to fill it up with? Luckily, Camp ROGA had a steady stream of gear to fill the pouches to the bursting. Two such pieces were the Ninja Stars and the Substitution Doll. First, the Substitution doll. This craft was one of the more difficult ones of this week for the campers, as they had quite a few parts (beads, hollow straws, pipe cleaners, etc.) and a lot of directions on how they should be put together. However, our campers’ diligence and patience paid off, as by completing their doll, they could use the Shadow Substitution technique. This technique calls for great speed and misdirection abilities, as Ninjas used the dolls as a distraction, throwing them before vanishing in a flash, leaving only the doll where they stood. This technique mystifies coaches and delights campers with their newfound abilities of evading detection. Also pictured are some of the Ninja stars our campers made, throwable objects requiring great precision and skill (and needing to be aimed away from other Ninjas). Camp ROGA provided one design for campers to decorate as they please, but some Ninjas decided to spend some long hours in the workshop and create their own designs in a stunning display of ingenuity and creativity.

Ninja themed snacks at Camp ROGA summer camp.

All of these activities were hard work; even Ninjas need refueling every so often, and we made sure they got it. During our themed snack break, campers were treated to two fun, camp-favorite creations that brought a little extra excitement to the day. First up: Ninja Clementines. These peeled oranges had faces drawn on the rinds and little black bandanas (made with fruit by the foot) wrapped around them, turning each one into a sneaky citrus warrior. Even Ninjas have to get all their vitamins, and dressing them up can make a healthy snack a fun experience. Also pictured was our ROGA Camp “Sushi”. This treat was made from Rice Krispies bars rolled in fruit by the foot, with a Swedish Fish tucked inside to look just like a piece of sushi. Campers loved how they looked, but even more how they tasted.

After a week spent training and arming up for battle, our Ninjas were raring for a battle of the ages, and the opportunity came on Thursday with our weekly end-of-camp Water Day. Camp ROGA always keeps a large stockpile of reusable water balloons, but this week the Ninjas were playing for keeps. Alliances were formed, and sides were chosen as Ninjas scrambled to stockpile as many water balloons as they could for their own armies. As supplies grew scarce, raids were mounted on opposing camps to claim their water balloons for themselves. Pictured above is one warrior as she prepares to charge into an enemy camp along with all her brothers and sisters in arms. The battle would be long, gruelling and filled with uncertainty, with betrayal taking place regularly, and with both sides claiming victory in the end. But one thing remained clear as the dust settled: everyone had a lot of fun.

And with that final climactic battle, Camp ROGA Ninja Warrior week came to its conclusion for the 2025 season. Many memories were made and challenges overcome. The energy and teamwork we saw this week reminded us why summer at the gym is such a unique experience. We are proud of our Ninjas and hope you will join us next week as we take on an Amazing Race Around the World!
